Student Employment at your BMC Bookshop
Your BMC Bookshop employs twelve to fifteen student associates during the school year, and two to three students each summer. Bookshop Associates assist customers of the Bryn Mawr College Bookshop, helping patrons find what they need and completing transactions at the registers. Associates also assist in receiving shipments, and restocking the sales floor. They take responsibility for maintaining a clean and inviting environment. In addition to these general responsiblities, Student Associates each take on a specific role: Content Creator, Book Associate, Retail Associate or Admin:
- Content Creators oversee the Bookshop's social media (Instagram and Facebookl) and maintain the store's website.
- Book Associates help manage our textbook department, and also work on selecting and stocking books outside the curriculum for our trade book displays and also for campus author events.
- Retail Associates manage general merchandise -- everything in the store aside from books, including clothing, food, health & beauty and stationery & supplies.
- Admins work on various administrative tasks, including accounting, scheduling and keeping the store supplied with necessary retail materials.
For all positions, the job requirements are the same. You must be cheerful, reliable, punctual, energetic and outgoing; committed to great customer service. Detail-oriented and thorough. Retail and cash-handling experience is a plus. Able to maintain poise at all times. Able to lift up to 35 pounds. Associates generally work 4 to 8 hours per week; you must be available to work at least two shifts of 2 to 2.5 hours each week. College policy does not allow first-year students to work in the Bookshop, but sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students are welcome to apply.
Student Associates have the opportunity to gain significant and substantial experience, working alongside veteran retail professionals. You will help shape the store's inventory and identity. It's a challenging, fast-paced environment, and we believe it's the best job on campus.
Jobs are posted on the Student Employment Portal (JobX) when openings are available, usually in late March/early April for summer and for the coming academic year. Positions may open up at other times, so please keep an eye on Daily Digest and sign up for JobMail alerts from JobX.
